Lung cancer is the most dangerous and deadly, if you are not careful in time, then you can die.
Why is lung cancer so dangerous?
Lung cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in America. In 2020, around 135,720 people lost their lives due to this disease. This figure is more than the deaths due to breast, colon, and prostate cancer. Lung cancer is also spreading rapidly in India, about which health experts have also expressed concern. According to an estimate by doctors, this cancer can be found in more than 2.38 lakh people in 2023. Some guidelines have also been issued to avoid increasing lung cancer. Let’s know…
Lung cancer increasing rapidly in India
Researchers of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) found in a study that by 2025, lung cancer cases in India may increase up to 7 times as compared to the last 10 years. Expressing concern over the lack of population-level screening tools, scientists said that if it is not improved, it may be difficult to reduce the death toll. In fact, in about 45% of lung cancer patients, it is detected when the cancer has reached the rest of the body. In India, it is usually detected in 50 years, by which time the situation has worsened a lot.
Guidelines regarding lung cancer
Based on the test and other information, the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has issued a guideline regarding the screening of lung cancer. In this, it has been asked to focus on increasing cancer screening in people aged 50-80 years with at least 20 packs of smokers every year. According to an estimate by the USPSTF, if the new guideline is followed properly, then deaths due to lung cancer can be reduced by more than 13%.
the main cause of lung cancer
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has found that smoking is the main cause of lung cancer. According to scientists, about 80% to 90% of deaths due to lung cancer are due to cigarette smoking only.
